State Bank of India (SBI) is looking at the option of coming out with a special package for the fund-starved power sector that would include longer-term loans for large power projects. The bank has attractive portfolio of power projects that it has funded, said deputy managing director of SBI Hemant Contractor. He also said that the bank’s lending experience to the power sector has been very good and with this will increase its exposure to this sector.
He said the bank was willing to offer loans for a period of 10-15 years to ultra mega power projects (UMPPs) as these are long gestation projects. The bank has already provided loans to Mundra as well as Sasan UMPPs.
