The ongoing tariff war among the domestic telecom operators is likely to intensify further with the industry major, Reliance Communications (RCom) reviewing its options to launch per second billing plan.
The indication from the company comes close on the hills of competitor, Bharti Airtel launching itâ??s per second billing plan, â??Freedom Planâ?? last week.
The per second billing has become the flavor of the sector since past few months, under which the mobile user is charged only for the seconds he speak rather than charging flat tariff per minute even if the call lasts for few seconds.
Recently, RCom had unveiled a new tariff plan under which it slashed all call rates to 50 paise per minute. The tariff plan named as â??Simply Relianceâ?? offers local, STD and landline calls to network of any service provider at flat 50 paise per minute for GSM as well as CDMA users of the company, whether postpaid or prepaid. Apart from this, the SMS facility under this plan is available at 50 paise per message to any network.
Meanwhile, the reduction in the tariff rates by the telecom operators to stay afloat in the highly competitive environment has affected their profitability outlook significantly.
For quarter ended September 30, 2009, RCom reported a net loss of Rs 117.88 crore against a net profit of Rs 468.74 crore for the same quarter last year.
