Rajesh Khanna dead

Rajesh Khanna, the original superstar of the Hindi film industry, died at his home, Aashirvad, in Mumbai on Wednesday at the age of 69.

The yesteryear actor was ailing since quite a while and had just been discharged from Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital on Tuesday. He had been diagnosed with a kidney problem.

Reports said that Rajesh Khanna was not responding to medicines and had been put on IV and had been grasping for breath since morning.  He had been put on life support.

His family was present with him and his doctor and physician were also next to him.

Television reports said that his son-in-law Akshay Kumar had returned from his shoots abroad to be by his side. All his family members had already gathered at his Bandra house which has been cordoned off by police officials.

Born Jatin Khanna on December 29, 1942, he took up the screen name of Rajesh Khanna when he entered filmdom. He acted in 163 films, including 106 as the hero.

Khanna won 3 Filmfare Best Actor Awards, four BFJA Awards for Best Actor (Hindi), and also the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.

He debuted in films in 1966 with the film Aakhri Khat. He attained unprecedented heights of stardom with films like Aradhana, Amar Prem, Kati Patang, Khamioshi, Raaz, Baharon Ke Sapne, Ittefaq, etc.

He married Dimple Kapadia in March 1973, but the couple separated in 1984. He has two daughters – Twinkle (Akshay Kumar’s wife) and Rinkie – from that marriage.

Euro 2012 Cover

Prior to Euro 2012 getting underway, there is no doubt than many expected Spain to make the final. Italy on the other hand are the surprise inclusion as these two teams go head to head tonight.

Reigning Champions Spain are the experts at progressing in major tournaments these days of course and despite being below par at times this summer, nobody is surprised to see them perform under pressure to make the final.

As mentioned though, Italy have defied all the odds to make it this far. Everyone knew they had talented players, but after losing three games in the build-up, not many thought they could succeed across the whole tournament.

The negative press that surrounded Italian football appears to have united them though, much like it did when they won the 2006 World Cup.

With their ‘hit or miss’ players – including Mario Balotelli – performing well and the experienced members of their squad leading by example, they have produced a winning formula.

Whether it is enough to beat Spain on Sunday though remains to be seen. Italy are the outsiders at 3/1 to be crowned Champions of Europe.

Spain will not be worried by the favourites tag though. They know that they have the players to win this weekend and will always back themselves, against any opposition in the world. They can be backed at 11/10 to win the game.

Looking at the other betting markets for this one, the idea of it being a tight game without too many goals appears to be a popular one. For it to be 0-0 after 90 minutes, you can get odds of 5/1.

Another fascinating market to look at is the Euro 2012 top goalscorer one. Of the contenders, Balotelli, Cesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso are all involved on Sunday.

This adds a fascinating sub-plot to what should be an entertaining, tense and competitive Euro 2012 final.

AN ASSOCIATED PRESS REPORT a little while ago.
A strong earthquake shook northeastern India and Nepal on Sunday night, killing at least 12 people, damaging buildings and sending lawmakers in Nepal's capital running into the streets.

The quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 6.9, was felt across northeastern India, including the capital of New Delhi. It triggered at least two aftershocks of magnitude 6.1 and 5.3, Indian seismology official R.S. Dattatreyan said. He warned more aftershocks were possible.

At least five people in India's Sikkim state were killed and more than 50 were injured, according to the state's top official, Chief Secretary Karma Gyatso. The north Indian states of West Bengal and Bihar each reported one death, and Nepal's government said five people died and dozens were hurt there.

The full extent of damage was not immediately known because the region is sparsely populated with many people living in remote areas now cut off by mudslides triggered by the quake, state police Chief Jasbir Singh told The Associated Press.

TV stations reported that buildings buckled, sidewalks cracked and two major roads collapsed in Sikkim's state capital of Gangtok, 42 miles (68 kilometers) southeast of the quake's epicenter. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police said two of its buildings had collapsed in Gangtok.

Small army columns fanned out across the city of some 50,000 overnight to search for anyone pinned under fallen debris.

"We have sounded a high alert. Police are on the streets in Gangtok and other major towns," he said.

Electricity and some phone service was interrupted in the area.

Power lines snapped in the West Bengal cities of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, which "are now in total darkness," state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, according to Press Trust of India.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offered to send troops to help, and summoned the National Disaster Management Authority for an emergency meeting. The air force sent five planes to help with rescue efforts.

The region has been hit by major earthquakes in the past, including in 1950 and 1897.

In neighboring Nepal and Bangladesh, the quake Sunday night sent residents rushing out of their homes, offices and shopping centers.

In Nepal's capital of Katmandu, members of parliament who were debating the national budget ran out of the assembly hall into a parking area. They returned 15 minutes later and resumed their session.

The quake was also felt as far as the Indian capital, with New Delhi residents also rushing out of shaking buildings.

New Thread: How does American Debt look like?

Deepak Sawhney at 09:30 PM - Sep 06, 2011 ( )

Have you ever seen a $100 bill? Sure you have.

Ever seen a bundle of 100 bills of $100 each totalling $10,000?
If not, this is how it look like:

What about our national debt amount, 15 trillion dollars? Ever seen that?

To give you an idea of how much money the United States' National Debt is, let us break it down for you:

This is $1 million in cash ($1,000,000).

On a global average, it takes 92 years of work to total this much money. Not the heaping piles of cash we all expected like in the movies, huh?

This is $1 billion dollars ($1,000,000,000):

What can you get for a billion dollars? You could buy a really big submarine from Germany. Or the world's most valuable athlete, New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez, could give you an idea... to total $1 billion with his world record salary, he would have to play over 16 more years of baseball, every...single...day... (That's 5,890 games in a row...look out Cal Ripken, Jr.!)

Below is $1 trillion in cash ($1,000,000,000,000):

In 2010, the US government had a 1.7 trillion deficit and this image shows the volume of cash the government borrowed in 2010, alone, to run itself. *Fun fact, if you spent $1 million a day since the birth of Jesus Christ, you would have not spent this much money by now. Rather your total would be around $700 billion which is actually the amount the banks received during the bailout.

Below is $15 trillion in cash ($15,000,000,000,000):

Unless the U.S. government fixes our budget, the national debt will surpass 15 trillion by Christmas of this year. That is 20% of the entire world's combined GDP and in 2011 the National Debt will exceed 100% of our GDP, and start going into the 100%+ debt-to-GDP ratio that has countries like Ireland, Portugal, Greece, Italy, and Spain (Euro PIIGS) are dealing with... bankruptcy.

What to expect for our future? Let's show you...

Below is 114.5 trillion dollars ($114,500,000,000,000):

This is the U.S. unfunded liabilities. This is calculated on current tax and funding inputs, and future demographic shifts in the U.S. population. This is the amount of money the U.S. government knows it does not have to fully fund the Medicare, Medicare Prescription Drug Program, Social Security, Military, and civil servant pensions.

It is the money the United States of America knows it will not have to pay all its bills. (Our stacks of money are taller than what used to be two of the tallest towers in the world, the Empire State Building and the World Trade Center Twin Towers.)

If all US Citizens decide to clear this debt, each one of them have to pay $46,138.

New Thread: WITHOUT A COMPUTER, YOU ARE NOBODY.

Deepak Sawhney at 05:41 PM - Sep 05, 2011 ( )

A jobless man applied for the position of office boy at Microsoft.

The HR manager interviewed him then watched him cleaning the floor as a test.

"You are employed." He said." Give me your e-mail address and I'll send you the application to fill in, as well as date when you may start."

The man replied "But I don't have a computer, neither an email."

I'm sorry", said the HR manager, "If you don't have an email, that means you do not exist. And who doesn't exist, cannot have the job."

The man left with no hope at all. He didn't know what to do, with only $10 in his pocket. During that season, tomatoes were in great demand. So, he thought of doing some business with it. He then went to the supermarket and bought a 10Kg tomato crate. He sold the tomatoes in a door to door round. In less than 2-3 hours, he succeeded to double his capital.

He repeated the Operation three times, and returned home with $60.

The man realized that he can survive by this Way, and started to go everyday earlier, and return late Thus, his money doubled or tripled every day. Shortly, he bought a cart, then a truck, then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles.

15 years later , the man is one of the biggest food retailers in the US.

He started to plan his family's future, and decided to have a life insurance.

He called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan. When the conversation was concluded, the broker asked him his email.

The man replied, "I don't have an email".

The broker answered curiously, "You don't have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?!!"

The man thought for a while and replied, "Yes, I'd have been an office boy at Microsoft!"

MORAL OF THE STORY:
Internet is not the solution to your life. If you don't have Internet, and work hard, you can still be a millionaire.

Example: Warren Buffet never invested in any internet or IT business but he is still one of the most respected and highly successful entrepreneur in the world.

Man finds $150,000 in garden

As the old saw goes, money doesn't grow on trees. But sometimes it sprouts up in the garden. An unemployed man in northern Illinois was out working in his backyard when he came across some serious green: bags filled with $150,000 cash.

Wayne Sabaj was headed to pick some broccoli to go with his roast. The carpenter spotted duffel bags that looked like trash by the peppers -- but they turned out to be a cash crop: stacks of $20 bills that added up to about $150,000. The 49-year-old, who is living with his dad, did not exactly jump for joy.

The out-of-work carpenter told ABC7, "I could really use this money." But with this money comes trouble. He explained, "With my luck, it would be bank robbery and I'd get caught and say I'd robbed a bank."

So the honest man with money troubles alerted the police to his amazing backyard treasure.

For now, police haven't a clue to where the cash came from: There are no reported burglaries in the area, and no banks have been robbed.

Then there was the concern that whoever left the money behind would be back, and that's a problem the Sabaj men would rather have solved by the police.

If nobody comes forward to legitimately claim the cash, there may be a happy ending for the man tending his garden: Police will help figure out if Sabaj can keep the money. The carpenter has retained an attorney just in case.

For now, the cash is in custody with the country sheriff, who left behind a card on the lawn where Sabaj found the bags, bearing the simple message, Please call.

New Thread: WHY ARE FIIs SELLING?

Deepak Sawhney at 11:30 PM - Aug 25, 2011 ( )

FIIs have turned net sellers for the eighth straight session.

Session after session, starting from August 11th, they have increased their net sales amount gradually.

Today almost 1440 crores is the net sale amount by FIIs.

A lot of churning also has taken place. They have exited Banks and Auto and entered into FMCG,Pharma and capital goods.

Do they feel that they have better places to park their money? Or, is it due to redemption pressure in their countries? Or, do they also suffer from panic?

Whatever it is, we Nifty and Sensex people have to be very cauious about this FII selling pattern.

Watch carefully before taking heavy long positions.

New Thread: MARKET-SERIOUS FOLKS, THIS IS NOT FOR YOU.

Deepak Sawhney at 10:19 PM - Aug 17, 2011 ( )

It's that time of year to take our annual BRAIN TEST  as our addiction to the market robs us of our focus on other small things of life..

Exercise of the brain is as important as exercise of the muscles. As we grow older, it's important to keep mentally alert. If you don't use it, you lose it! Below is a very private way to gauge your loss or non-loss of intelligence.

Take the test presented here to determine if you're losing it or not. The spaces below are so you don't see the answers until you've made your answer.

OK, relax, clear your mind and begin.

1. What do you put in a toaster?

Answer: 'Bread.' If you said 'toast,' give up now and do something else. Try not to hurt yourself.

If you said, bread, go to Question 2..

2. Say 'silk ' five times. Now spell 'silk..' What do cows drink?

Answer: Cows drink water. If you said 'milk,' don't attempt the next question. Your brain is over-stressed and may even overheat. Content yourself with reading a more appropriate literature such as Auto World.

However, if you said 'water', proceed to question 3.

3. If a red house is made from red bricks and a blue house is made from blue bricks and a pink house is made from pink bricks and a black house is made from black bricks, what is a green house made from?

Answer: Greenhouses are made from glass. If you said 'green bricks,' why the hell are you still reading these???

If you said 'glass,' go on to Question 4.

4. It's twenty years ago, and a plane is flying at 20,000 feet over Germany (If you will recall, Germany at the time was politically divided into West Germany and East Germany.) Anyway, during the flight, two engines fail. The pilot, realizing that the last remaining engine is also failing, decides on a crash landing procedure. Unfortunately the engine fails before he can do so and the plane fatally crashes smack in the middle of 'no man's land' between East Germany and West Germany. Where would you bury the survivors? East Germany, West Germany, or no man's land'?

Answer: You don't bury survivors.

If you said ANYTHING else, you're a dunce and you must stop. If you said, 'You don't bury survivors', proceed to the next question.

5. Without using a calculator - You are driving a bus from London to Milford Haven in Wales. In London, 17 people get on the bus. In Reading, six people get off the bus and nine people get on. In Swindon, two people get off and four get on. In Cardiff, 11 people get off and 16 people get on.. In Swansea, three people get off and five people get on . In Carmathen, six people get off and three get on. You then arrive at Milford Haven. What is the age of the bus driver?

Answer: Oh, for crying out loud!
Don't you remember your own age ? It was YOU!!

Now pass this along to all your friends and pray they do better than you.
PS: 95% of people fail most of the questions!!

New Thread: AUGUST 13TH, INTERNATIONAL LEFT-HANDERS DAY.

Deepak Sawhney at 11:13 PM - Aug 13, 2011 ( )

Left-handedness is the preference for the left hand over the right for everyday activities such as writing. Historically, the left side and left-handedness is considered a sign of devil and negative in many cultures. Hand orientation is developed in fetuses, most commonly determined by observing which hand is predominantly held close to the mouth.
